"Kllo's Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul are masters of juxtaposition, infusing their bubbling electro-pop beats with mellow R&B vocals and a churning, ever-present sense of yearning." – Pitchfork
Since the release of their full-length debut in 2017, Melbourne duo Kllo have toured considerably, selling out shows in London, New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and more. They've kept fans on their toes with two singles, "Potential" and "Candid," reflecting an evolved mode in their songwriting, a confluence of silky balladry and smooth bangers. 2019 has afforded them some moments to rest and record, from which they now emerge with the first hint of new material and a world tour announced for this fall. "Back To You" continues the subtle twist on Kllo hallmarks. The tone is tender and bittersweet; the production is crisp and grooving; the lyrics detail the strained distance and bliss of an on-again-off-again relationship. The band adds, "Back To You draws influences from the early 2000s. We had an old school approach when it came to the recording process by incorporating cassettes for the ad-libs and an old sampler for the main riff. We'd spent some time in LA recently, and being there reminded us of the 'American sound' that we both grew up with."
A natural and engagingly fresh feeling runs through this LP. Sung in a disarmingly self deprecating way that only increases it's strongly meaningful appeal. Tender timeless and modern at the same time. I was hooked after Sophie. Nemo Halperin
